Various shortcomings in widely used package managers are identified and we look at ways to address them using system level solutions.
Functional package managers blend features like referential integrity, atomic operations, system state definition, etc to provide a new way of maintaining not just the binaries but also its configuration files. This approach is different from the approach used by tools like puppet, etc. This talk gives an overview of the work already done and is not meant to be comprehensive or hands on.
