Persistent storage for containers using Gluster

Submitted Apr 18, 2017

Containers are built to be ephemeral, stateless entities. But stateful applications running inside containers need a place to persistently store their data. The topic of persistent storage in container orchestration platforms like kubernetes is still relatively new and usually requires a lot of administrator activities and extra storage hardware.

Outline

This talk introduces Gluster-Kubernetes, a project that deploys one or more GlusterFS clusters along with the volume management interface heketi as containers into kubernetes with a single command. This gives the administrator a robust and scalable persistent storage solution for their containers which is seamlessly integrated with kubernetes itself and allows to dynamically storage volumes of requested sizs for an application. The talk will feature a demo, and explain the roadmap of gluster-kubernetes.
