Designing Scalable Unit Test Reporting for Distributed Systems

Submitted Dec 19, 2025

Describe your session (2 paragraphs)

Modern engineering teams run thousands of unit tests across multiple services and repositories, yet test reporting often remains fragmented, noisy, and hard to act upon. Developers struggle with flaky tests, poor failure context, oversized logs, and limited visibility into trends across builds and teams. As systems scale, these gaps significantly impact developer productivity and slow down feedback loops, ultimately affecting product quality.

In this session, I’ll share a practical approach to improving unit test reporting observability at scale. We’ll explore how to design structured, meaningful test reports that go beyond pass/fail counts—covering failure analytics, log optimization, historical trends, and CI/CD integration. Drawing from real-world experience, I’ll demonstrate how better test observability helps teams debug faster, reduce noise, and make informed quality decisions, leading to more reliable releases and happier developers.

Takeaways from the Session

How to design scalable and actionable unit test reporting that improves visibility across large codebases and teams

Practical strategies to reduce debugging time, flaky tests, and log noise, directly boosting developer productivity and product quality

Which audience is this session beneficial for?

This session will be valuable for:

Backend and platform engineers working with large test suites

QA engineers and SDETs focusing on test reliability and reporting

DevOps and CI/CD engineers responsible for build pipelines

Tech leads and engineering managers aiming to improve developer experience and software quality
