SaltStack Fundamentals

Submitted Mar 10, 2015

This will be a hands on Workshop.

Attendees will come away from this training with an understanding of the SaltStack core architecture and core modules, when to write custom execution modules, grains, and runners; how best to use the Salt Reactor, Salt Orchestrate, and more. Trainees will learn how to install SaltStack from scratch in both master / minion and masterless architectures, run commands, set up and manage systems, and orchestrate deployments.

Outline

During the course, I will give an introduction to using SaltStack for data center command and control, configuration management and infrastructure automation. Trainees will also successfully install and use SaltStack to orchestrate deploying a simple Web app on Apache.

Requirements

Work experience as a systems administrator, DevOps engineer, or in some function of IT operations. Some familiarity with systems management tools and practices.

Speaker bio

I’ve been dealing with large scale for more than a decade. I’m a Systems Engineer at Booking.com, where I work on creating and maintaining services that operate at web scale. Previously, I was the Master of Disaster at Flipkart.com. Even before that, I was a performance engineer at Yahoo!
