Making robots using Android and Arduino

Submitted by Sudar Muthu (@sudar) on Sunday, 2 October 2011

Section: NFC, Arduino and ADK Technical level: Intermediate Session type: Workshop

View proposal in schedule

The objective of this session is to show the different ways by which Android can talk to Arduino and how we can leverage this connectivity in making robots.

With the release of ADK, using Android to control hardware has become really easy. Arduino can be used to create small robots easily and Android can act as the brain for these robots.

In this talk, I am planning to show the different ways by which we can make both Android and Arduino talk to each other and how we can leverage this connectivity in making robots.

A basic understanding of Android is needed. Basic understanding of Arduino would be helpful but not needed.

    Hi Sudar,

unfortunately ,i could not manage to get the tickets and was late on reaching this website ! Would it make sense to include more hardware on the other end and not just robots ?

    Like may be an :

    Elevator design : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=uoyumI71lwA
    Weight machines : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=OhVneV-S4Qc
LED matrix display units: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGuXIxlMLmE ..etc

Showing more such demonstrations will excite people and also may be open there eyes on the hardware front . If u need these hardwares i can arrange them to pick up free for your sessions . Would you be interested ?

Looking forward to this talk. I hope we will get to see a live demo. Also Interested in understanding NFC better.

  • Sudar (@sudarmuthu) 7 years ago

Yes there will be a live demo.

But my talk may not cover NFC fully since I will be mostly concentrating on the integration part between Arduino and Android.

Is there any additional hardware we need to carry? I’ve got an Arduino and an Android phone, but I was wondering what’s planned to be used to interface the two.

Just noticed this is a talk, not a workshop (which would be awesome).

If I can get access some of these hardware then I can demo them as well. Contact me offline and we can see what best we can do.
