Scaling Databases

Scaling from first principles

About the session:

More than 90% of the bottlenecks in modern applications are attributed to databases. Very often, performance and scaling issues come from poorly designed databases.

  • How do you decide which database engine to use - RDBS or NoSQL database?
  • How do you make sure your application scales well with the current database engine?
  • How to identify bottlenecks in the database layer?
  • Is there a first principles approach to think about databases?

Welcome to the fifth episode of “Scaling from the first principles” series. In this episode, we have Swanand Pagnis, Srihari Sriraman and Nivedita Priyadarshini bringing deep expertise on designing database-driven large-scale applications and scaling them.

About the panelists:

Swanand Pagnis is a senior engineering leader with deep expertise on Postgres. He conducts the popular SQL Master Class with Hasgeek.

Srihari Sriraman is a partner at Nilenso. Srihari has worked with various clients in designing and developing low-latency and high-volume systems.

Nivedita Priyadarshini is a partner at Nilenso. She has worked with many clients on designing and building high-throughput systems involving large databases.

This series is curated by Anand Chitipothu.

Participation: This session is free to attend. RSVP to participate. Zoom link will be sent to registered participants before the workshop. Or you can watch the livestream on this page, and leave comments/questions.
