Handling Multi DC / Hybrid Cloud constructs with Apache HBase on Kubernetes
Submitted Apr 4, 2025
Topic of your submission:
Distributed data systems
Type of submission:
30 mins talk
I am submitting for:
Rootconf Annual Conference 2025
Description:
Apache HBase is an open-source non-relational distributed database. It is developed as part of Apache Software Foundation’s Apache Hadoop project and runs on top of HDFS, providing Bigtable-like capabilities for Hadoop.
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery is a necessity for every organization. One aspect of it is to make their backend systems available in more than one Region / Data Center / Cloud. At Flipkart, we have our infrastructure available across multiple Regions and hybrid cloud and here is a case study on how we architected our multi region constructs with Apache HBase
This talk covers the architectural aspects of constructs required to run Apache HBase across multi DC / hybrids. Some constructs covered will be around the core database (Apache HBase) capabilities and its configurations, ephemeral constructs such as Change Data Capture, Client level constructs.
Takeaways
- Case study on managing databases like Apache HBase in multi DC / Hybrid cloud setup built for handling high scale
- Case study on constructs required by Functional applications while interacting with databases deployed across multi DC / Hybrid cloud
- Case study on deployment model with kubernetes in the context of multi DC / Hybrid cloud
Audience
- Engineers / SRE’s curious to understand how databases can be handled in multi dc / hybrid cloud setup
- Engineers want to understand what sort of constructs are required to run functional applications which is deployed across multi dc / hybrid cloud in the context of interacting with Databases.
- SRE’s curious to understand deployment model of multi dc / hybrid cloud setup
