Hybrid Search with Couchbase

Submitted Apr 14, 2026

Description

Modern applications demand more than simple keyword matching. In this session, we’ll walk through how Bleve (an open-source full-text and vector search library) powers Couchbase’s Search service.

We’ll go in depth into how hybrid search works through fusion algorithms such as RRF and RSF.

Takeaways

Attendees will learn how to leverage hybrid search to improve their retrieval pipelines and RAG applications, and how they might be able to tune them.

Target Audience

This session is designed for backend engineers, search/platform engineers, and architects building search applications, or RAG/agentic workflows. It’s also valuable for anyone curious about how full-text and vector search works, and would like to get into the nitty-gritty of index architectures and hybrid search.

Bio

Gautham Krithiwas is a Software Engineer on the Search team at Couchbase. He is passionate about all things related to search, from AI agents and embedding models to index architectures. He has contributed to the score fusion and GPU indexing capabilities in Bleve.
