📅 Conference dates: 29 May (workshops) | 30 May (conference)
📍 Venue: Polaris School of Technology, Brookfield, Bangalore

Why this edition

With the ACM SIGMOD/PODS Conference 2026 happening in Bangalore (31 May – 5 June), Rootconf is hosting a special community edition on databases just before it.

This is a chance to bring together:

  • engineers running databases in production
  • researchers building the next generation of data systems

👉 Selected talks from this CfP will be featured at Rootconf.

🎯 Tracks

1. Exploratory/Survey

Cut through the noise.
Help the audience understand emerging database ideas, architectures, and research directions.

2. Production-informed learnings

What worked. What failed. Why.
Deep dives into real-world database systems, failures, trade-offs, and decisions at scale.

💡 What to submit

We’re looking for technical, experience-driven talks on modern data systems.

Example areas (not exhaustive):

  • Database architectures (lakehouse, disaggregated, HTAP, object-store-backed)
  • Performance & scale (query optimization, extreme workloads, cost trade-offs)
  • AI + databases (vector search, retrieval systems, LLM integrations)
  • Reliability (failover, replication, incidents, migrations)
  • Security & governance (access control, compliance, auditability)
  • War stories (failures, regressions, scaling surprises)

👉 If you’re working on databases in any form, share your work with us.

⚡ Fast-track submissions open till 9 May

To diversify the speaker pool, we’re accepting exceptional late submissions until 9 May.

Important:

  • You must add the link to prepared slides with your submission
  • Slides should clearly cover problem → approach → learnings
  • These submissions will be fast-tracked for review

🎤 Formats

  • 30-min talk (deep dive)
  • 15-min talk (focused experience)
  • Lightning talk (5 mins)
  • BOF (discussion-led)
  • Workshops (hands-on)

🧠 What makes a strong talk

  • A real problem (not a generic overview)
  • Clear design decisions and trade-offs
  • Honest failures and lessons learned
  • Insights others can apply

🧑 ⚖️ Review process

Submissions are reviewed by senior engineers and practitioners from organizations such as Uber, Nutanix, Flipkart, Couchbase, Index Exchange, Udaan, and the broader Rootconf community.

👉 See the full review team: https://hasgeek.com/rootconf/database-conf-cfp/crew

All speakers receive detailed feedback. Rehearsals will be held with accepted talks.

🎤 Why speak at Rootconf

  • Present to a high-signal audience of database engineers & system builders
  • Get constructive technical feedback
  • Engage with the SIGMOD community visiting Bangalore
  • Bridge research ↔ production systems
