Cloud Costs Optimization

Over the years, Flipkart has successfully operated a private cloud infrastructure consisting of millions of cores across multiple regions. However, the fluctuating compute requirements of 2x to 10x during major sale events such as “Big Billion Days,” “Independence Day,” and “Republic Day” often result in excessive underutilization of the infrastructure outside of these peak periods. While public cloud infrastructure offers flexible capacity and streamlined integration with managed services, its higher cost compared to private cloud infrastructure poses a challenge.

To address this challenge, Flipkart is embarking on a journey towards a hybrid cloud model. This approach aims to leverage the strengths of both public and private clouds, enabling Flipkart to optimize costs and enhance business agility.
