Rootconf 5k

Post-conference run

What is Rootconf 5k

Finished two days of deep-diving into mdadm configurations, dissecting pubsub queue architectures, and debating the security of AI/GenAI models at Rootconf 2025? Feeling like your mental RAM is at full capacity after navigating the complexities of Platform Engineering, Distributed Data Systems, and Supply Chain Security?

It’s time to reboot your system!

The Rootconf 5K is your chance to switch contexts from sudo su on production servers to sudo run in the serene environment of Cubbon Park. Join us on Sunday, 18th May 2025, from 7:45 AM to 9:15 AM for a refreshing 5-kilometer run (or walk, or a brisk ls -l of the park!).

This isn’t about setting a new personal best or outrunning a daemon process (unless you want to!). It’s a casual, “go-at-your-own-pace” event designed for fun, networking, and stretching those legs after an intense conference. Think of it as a “graceful shutdown and reboot” for your body and mind, a chance to sync up with fellow attendees in a different kind of cluster.

Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or your idea of a long-distance run is chasing down a memory leak, everyone is welcome. Let’s trade war stories from the conference tracks, discuss the future of tech, or just enjoy the Bangalore morning air together. It’s the perfect cool-down process after the main event.

Prep for the run AKA ./configure_your_run.sh

  • git clone Your Spot (RSVP!):
This is a critical dependency! Please RSVP so we can get a headcount for our aid stations.

  • Your Gear Stack:

    • Comfortable Attire & Footwear: Dress in clothes and shoes that are happy to execute a 5K. Whether that’s your latest high-performance running gear or just comfy threads, it’s all good.
    • BYO-Bottle (Bring Your Own Water Bottle): We’ll have aid stations with water to refill and keep your system hydrated. Help us reduce waste by bringing your own bottle!
    • Your Conference Badge (Optional, but cool!): Flash your Rootconf creds if you like!
    • A positive_attitude.so: Essential for maximum enjoyment and networking.
  • What to Expect on D-Day (Deployment Day!):

    • Location: The scenic Cubbon Park, Bangalore. (Exact route details to be shared closer to the date - consider it a dynamic link.)
    • Pace: “Graceful shutdown and reboot.” Walk, jog, run - the goal is to finish feeling refreshed, not like you’ve just wrestled a kernel panic.
    • Support: Aid stations will be available to provide hydration.
    • Networking: A fantastic opportunity to connect with speakers, organizers, and fellow attendees. Discuss your favorite microservices or monoliths on the move!
  • Pre-Run Optimization (Optional but Recommended):

    • Get a good night’s sleep after the conference.
    • Maybe do a quick apt-get update on your energy levels with a light breakfast.

We can’t wait to see you there, ready to exchange packets of conversation and enjoy a morning cron job of a different kind!
