This will cover a number of neat tricks Spencer uses on the command line to make his life easier.
Most of these tricks compose the standard unix utilities. Only one or two require any packages outside of the standard set.
At least one of these tricks will wow you so much that you’ll add it to your .bashrc on the spot. Spencer’s hope is that you will see the patterns he uses to construct these small utilities and you will start creating and using your own.

Spencer (nibalizer) Krum has been sysoping Linux since 2010. He works for IBM contributing upstream to OpenStack and Puppet. Spencer coordinates the local DevOps user group in Portland. Spencer helped found the puppet-community effort, which attempts to bring together a network of developers, modules, and infrastructure.
