How lightning deploys helped Shuttl

Submitted Dec 9, 2018

Frontend deploys previously have been a slow, and often manual process. Even then, testing different branches, rolling back releases with bugs, etc. have been pretty painful.

Lightning deployments is a very simple, yet a very impactful concept that hasn’t been used enough.

Outline

  • How a frontend deployment happened at Shuttl and many other companies
  • QA testing in the traditional frontend deployment setup
  • How lightning deployments work and their conveniences
    • Benefits with QA testing
    • Benefits with previewing unreleased versions to customers
    • Dealing with bugs faster than ever before because of instant rollbacks

Requirements

  • Basic familiarity of how frontend projects are traditionally built, both as independent frontends, and as fullstack monoliths

Speaker bio

I’m Jayant. A frontend web developer at Shuttl, with a special interest in design, improving code quality, and developer experience.
