Problem Research - Today, many students, including those in 11th and 12th standard preparing for board exams and competitive entrance exams like JEE or CET, use PDFs instead of regular books. From my own experience as a former student, I noticed a common problem. It’s tough for students to understand everything from a PDF, and they often miss important points that could be the answers to multiple-choice questions (MCQs). This issue can make studying less effective and might affect how well students do in exams.

Our proposed chatbot, the QuizMateAI, is designed to revolutionize the way individuals interact with and comprehend complex documents. The chatbot operates in three distinct tabs, each catering to different aspects of document utilization and understanding.

  1. Summarization Tab:
In the first tab, users can provide the chatbot with a PDF document, and the chatbot will employ advanced summarization techniques to distill the key information from the document. Leveraging vector embeddings, the summarized content acts as a contextual foundation for subsequent interactions.

  2. Explanation Tab:
Moving to the second tab, users can prompt the chatbot to explain various concepts from the provided PDF. The chatbot utilizes similar words and phrases found in the document, ensuring a coherent and contextually relevant explanation, facilitating a deeper understanding of the content.
This feature is very important as nowadays, while checking papers, the examiners want the exact wording given in the textbooks as the solution.

  3. Assessment Tab:
In the third tab, the chatbot takes on the role of an educational assistant, generating a test based on the content of the PDF. Users can test their knowledge, and the chatbot provides instant grading along with detailed feedback. Incorrect answers are accompanied by highlighted excerpts from the PDF, guiding users to the relevant sections for further review.

    Hello Anurag,

Thanks for submitting your idea to the Open Source AI Hackathon. The proposal needs to be updated based on the following considerations.

    Feedback on Problem Research

The description of students' use of PDFs and the challenges faced is based on personal experience and lacks quantifiable data or broader research on the topic.

Feedback on Proposed Chatbot - QuizMateAI

    The Summarization Tab

    1. The proposed functionality of distilling key information from a PDF using advanced summarization techniques is not supported by specific details or examples of the technology or methods involved.
    2. The utilization of vector embeddings for creating a contextual foundation lacks explanation of how this process enhances the summarization of the document.

    The Explanation Tab

    1. The functionality of providing explanations for concepts from the PDF lacks a demonstration of how the chatbot ensures coherence and contextually relevant explanations.
    2. The emphasis on matching textbook wording for solutions is not accompanied by evidence of its importance or its relevance to the users' needs.

    The Assessment Tab

    1. The functionality of generating tests based on PDF content lacks details on how the chatbot extracts relevant information and formulates questions.
    2. While the provision of instant grading and detailed feedback is highlighted, there is no mention of how the chatbot ensures accuracy in its assessment and feedback mechanisms. The effectiveness of guiding users to relevant sections for further review is not substantiated.

Overall, the proposal would benefit from a stronger foundation in research and a more detailed and evidenced-based explanation of the chatbot's functionalities and capabilities.
