We’re thrilled to begin the countdown to our upcoming online workshop where we dive into the fascinating world of large language models (LLMs) and fine-tuning. The pace of progress in open-source language models has been insane lately, and we’re eager to catch you up on all the hype.

In this workshop, we will provide you with a solid theoretical understanding of how LLMs are trained and fine-tuned, combined with practical tools and workflows to get you started on your own projects. Along the way, we will train our own scriptwriter assistant so that you can write your next emotional drama or comedic series.

This workshop is targeted at beginners and aims to introduce LLMs in a crisp, accessible manner to avoid overwhelming you. Whether you are a software engineer, data scientist, or simply interested in AI, we’ve got you covered. As this space is still in the early stages of development, there are many ways to approach these technologies. We’ve chosen a particular opinionated option to help you get started quickly without getting too caught up in the weeds. Of course, we will also discuss the landscape of tools and methodologies available, but our main goal is fixed: co-write our masterpiece and learn about fine-tuning LLMs.

In the build-up to the workshop, we will reveal more and also provide you with some steps to ensure you are ready to hit the ground running, here are two simple steps to take today:

Create an account with HuggingFace: Join HuggingFace, the GitHub equivalent for the open-source machine learning community. It is used to manage datasets and model artifacts just like GitHub manages code.
Sign up with Modal Labs: Register at Modal Labs, the AWS of the LLM world. They provide a serverless GPU platform, and we will use their services to launch our training jobs!
