A lot of times we have to organise an event/conference for our organisatioon and we have to go through the pain of getting the webapp, android app and an api to support this. An organiser has to invest a lot in developers and time to get these ready.
With FOSSASIA’s Open Event project, which is also my GSoC project, we plan to curb all these issues and provide a simple interface where you can generate an android apk, webapp and server just by adding few basic details about the event. Specifically the android app which is customisable from the ui to the data based on the inputs by the organisers.
I’ll discuss about the early stages of the project and how the need for this came up and what is the USP of using such a system. Then I’ll move on to the technical implementations of the generators and how’re making the apps customisable. I’ll also touch upon the usage of the components separately as well as together. Then I’ll move to showing an end to end demo starting from each server and then getting the system up for production. After this I’ll use this system to showcase how an organiser can actually go about generating apps for their event.
I am a 4th year undergraduate student at IIIT Delhi and a two time GSoCer with FOSSASIA. I’m also a Google code in 2015 mentor. I developed the Open event android app from scratch and currently maintaining it, so I’m in a unique position to talk about it. I am also an open source enthusiast and love to develop for android apps.
Apart from this I have also presented Open event project @ FOSSASIA 2016 in Singapore.
