The objective of this talk is to help you optimize your apps to tap into emerging markets, as that is the user base that is seeing tremendous growth. I will be giving examples of the challenges faced along with optimizations to overcome those. I will be concentrating on three major pain points:
1)Different Phones
2)Different Network
3)Different Data Plans
In the past few years, Android has grown exponentially, and now more than one billion people use Android devices every month from more than 40,000 different device models. Emerging markets like India,China, Brazil and Indonesia are driving this growth. We need to be able to customize the experiences of these people in order to build amazing products. What works for high-end smartphones won’t necessarily work on low end phones which are very common in these emerging markets.
In order to accomplish this, we need to be smart about things like performance, network and data. This talk will discuss about the challenges that your users face on feature phones and how to overcome those using some tips and tricks which would make a lot of difference. I will also be talking about some examples of how some popular companies optimize their apps for emerging markets.
I currently work at Deloitte Consulting as a Business Technology Analyst. Having worked on a wide array of technologies, mobile is where my passion lies. At Deloitte, I have worked on mobile enterprise platforms like Salesforce 1 along with Android and Phonegap.
I have been developing on the Android platform since the past 3 years and have worked on around 15 apps. I have done some independent freelancing work as well which gave me the chance to work on some challenging problems faced by startups all around the globe. I also have some experience on other mobile platforms like J2ME, Blackberry 10 and Windows Phone 7.
