Using websockets to control robots in realtime

Submitted Oct 23, 2012

The objective of the talk is to explore ways by which websockets can be used outside the browser and natively in Android apps for real time communication.

Outline

Websockets are very good for real time push communications. But nothing prevents us from using it outside the browser.

In this talk, I will explore ways by which websockets can be used natively in Android apps (outside the browser).

I will also be showing a demo, where we can use Android to control a robot in real-time using websockets.

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of Android
  • Basic knowledge of network protocols
  • Basic knowledge of Arduino (optional)

Speaker bio

I build robots as a hobby and Arduino is my playground.
