Have you always wanted to learn how to make maps? This workshop will teach you the basics of mapping. We start off with learning how to map with a pen and paper, then with your personal devices and the final boss - a GIS software(QGIS). An additional of this workshop is to understand what it is you are mapping and whether you need to map it at all.
The goal at the end of the workshop is to equip you with the skills you need to make a map. We’re not going to be Massimo Vignellis at the end of it, but we can try.
This is a workshop for absolute beginners. Familiarity with computers will help but that’s all. No coding skills necessary.
Harsha Devulapalli is a graphics reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, with a diverse background as a researcher, geographer, urban designer, developer and product manager. He is passionate about cities, maps, transit, languages, typography and history. He can tell you all the things he has mapped successfully (a few) and unsuccessfully (a lot).
