i make visualizations of patterns hidden in languages. In this group activity, we shall be doing a series of activities such as:
Create a language similarity matrix. With user inputs we collect some words for a common list and then in a language matrix we assess how similar any two languages are. In next activity, we shall visualise the consonant and vowel flow of different versions of the same song. Thirdly, we can use my tool iipmaps to visualise what certain things are called in different states of india. Other ideas on top of my mind: Idioms in different languages, what same sanskrit word means in different languages.
Takeaways:
Theres so much interesting patterns hidden in languages. Participants will uncover these patterns in a new way inspiring their creativity to dive into linguistics using data viz as a companion tool.
Will facilitate inter cultural dialogue and empathy which i feel is the need of the hour.
Anyone and everyone interested in languages and dataviz is welcome.
