In September 2020, the Hindustan Times Newspaper was re-designed. The redesign took about 8 months. The goal of the redesign was not so much about the newspaper but to effect a change in the newsroom’s approach to content across platforms - print and digital. What does this change mean for the readers and for the publishers themselves?

Anup Gupta - Managing Editor, Integrations with HT Media Ltd - is a member of a core group that is spearheading the change at the Hindustan Times by implementing an integrated newsroom. He will deliver the talk, followed by a Q&A session.

About the speaker: Anup Gupta is presently the Managing Editor, Integrations, with HT Media Ltd, Delhi. He is a member of a core group that is spearheading a major change at the Hindustan Times by implementing an integrated newsroom. Leading the editorial track in the project; Anup, along with the other members of the core group, is rethinking the way a news organisation should and will operate tomorrow. He has recently spearheaded the rethink and redesign of Hindustan Times.
Anup Gupta is a graduate of Applied Art from College of Art, Delhi. With more than three decades of work experience in the publishing industry, Anup Gupta had the privilege of working with India Today, Economic Times, Business Today, Business Standard, Business World, India Today Group Online, Times of India, Mint and Hindustan Times. He has been instrumental in designing and redesigning some of these publications where he has also built and managed the design competency. He has recently spearheaded the rethink and redesign of Hindustan Times.
He is married to Peali Dutta Gupta, a design consultant and his soulmate for 34 years. They have a 12 year old daughter Pia and live in Delhi.

About the Typography Society of India (TSI): TSI was set up by Prof. G V Sreekumar and a group of Typography and Calligraphy enthusiasts. He is a Professor and former Head of IDC school of Design at IIT Bombay. The main objective of this group is to provide a platform for interaction and to share knowledge on Calligraphy, Typography etc with design students, profesionals and academicians. TSI’s core group includes Prof Tarundeep Girdher (NID Ahmedabad), Dr D.Udayakumar (Dept of Design, IIT Guwahati and Designer of the Indian Rupee Sign) and Chirag Gander (CEO, The Minimalist). TSI started off as a small WhatsApp group for typography enthusiasts. It also has a facebook group called “Typography India”.
