In India, most Indie music is treated as a hobby, by the general public and many times, by the artists themselves. I would like to explore ideas from mainstream business that can be applied to music and how we can put some more focus on the “business” in music business.
I have a whole load of experience being in the Indian indie music industry over the last 10 years, and I can paint a quick picture of how the industry works in India. I would love to have a discussion with people from different industries, and domains, and try and see how ideas, strategies and even basic concepts from other businesses can be used to change how musicians and bands in Indie India look at their profession.
Bring your experience running companies, or being a part of them and any insight on how you tackled specific obstacles you came across.
I am Gaurav Vaz, bass guitarist and manager of The Raghu Dixit Project, a contemporary folk band from Bangalore, India. Over the last 10 years, I have been part of India’s fast growing indie music industry and have performed in over 25 countries with my band.
My passion lies in Music Business and I run a couple of other initiatives that help mentor artists, book shows and manage events for brands and corporates.
