Hardware? In a Block Game??

Submitted Oct 1, 2026

When you think of Minecraft, computers are probably not the first thing that comes to mind.

If you watch Minecraft on youtube though, you probably have seen some youtubers build crazy stuff with redstone, an element to define power transmission in the game.

This is computational redstone, something I have only recently gotten into myself as it relates a lot to my interests in my electronic engineering course and computer architecture in general. This is my first talk of any manner so I guess its sort of a shot in the dark for me to talk about the stuff I am interested in!

Computational Redstone has taken off recently with the rise of youtubers like mattbattwings, one of the main inspirations behind me getting into this. Learning the blocks of computational redstone lets you discover virtually endless possibilities with what you can do with them. People have made calculators, videogames, language models among a lot of stuff. inside Minecraft, all using what is basically the foundation of computer architecture.

Since it is a 10 minute talk, I hope for it to be a decent introduction to the basic elements of computational redstone while showcasing whats possible using said elements, all while highlighting the awesome open source projects in relation to a game like Minecraft.

Hope you find this as fascinating as I do!

Its a rabbit hole I cannot guarantee you can get out of :D
