Crashing Into Transit-Tech

Submitted Oct 4, 2026

A super-fast crash course into transit-technology.

Recently in India there has been a push from the government to leverage data and technology in transit operations, primarily in intra-city bus networks. As a result, we have seen a lot of data previously unavailable suddenly become available for the public to use when navigating these networks.

For an end-user the transit-tech story likely ends there, however we will go deeper into the newly available data as well as exploring ecosystems and open data standards that exist in the FOSS space, applied to the Indian context.

As we have a limited amount of time, I will primarily cover the tech, not focusing on the policies, bureaucracy, and governance surrounding this tech.
