The first time I met with the Hasgeek folks was at a HTML5 event at Pune. I think I still have the swag - a coffee mug (those were the days!) from the event. The then prevalent nature of technology conversations was around the specific innards of technology. Over the years Hasgeek has steered the conversation and context to include life - that is a significant and singular achievement. To be able to see our lives in the context of technology, choices, rights and policy - to observe shifts in culture, appropriation of spaces in context of agency and abilities - to be simply about to understand more of things around us - that is what Hasgeek has been able to bring about. In 2020 it seems like “but this is obvious!” - it wasn’t so in 2010 and not even in 2015. It takes quite a gigantic dose of courage and conviction to do what Zainab and Kiran have done with Hasgeek. There is some part of us - something hardwired in a fight/flight switch which draws us to dystopian realities. At a point in time when dystopian possibilities are likely lurking around the corner Hasgeek’s message has been optimistic - it has focused on enabling individuals to discover the better side of their nature. And by doing so Hasgeek has become an endearing part of our lives. 10 years is a strong period of growth - a lot of love, hope and strength. Cheers!
