THEJAS32 is CDAC’s 100 MHz, 32 bit RISC-V chip. It’s the only designed in India microcontroller chip that you can buy!
Unfortunately the chip itself isn’t documented well. CDAC makes the ARIES series of boards. These are closed source. There’s Arduino support, but precious else. To solve some of these issues, I have created an open source board called AtiVEGA. (AFAIK, it is the only open source board built around THEJAS32). Among other things, AtiVEGA provides a way to do cool things such as overclocking the chip (this was showcased in my talk at IndiaFOSS 2024).
In this talk, we will take a deep look at the design of AtiVEGA and how it uses the combo of THEJAS32 and Raspberry Pi Pico. We’ll go through the process of how it was designed in KiCAD - the open source EDA tool.
We will look at overall design process of the board, and deep dive into the schematics and the layout of the board. Idea is to show the audience that while it takes work, it isn’t actually that difficult, and should be easily doable by undergrad students using FOSS tools.
