AI is no longer just a co-pilot; it is rapidly becoming an autonomous co-worker. With 84% of developers now relying on generative tools, engineering teams have solved the problem of speed -- only to create a far more complex challenge: the crisis of collaboration and quality control.

This Birds of a Feather (BOF) session invites practitioners, managers, and technologists to move past the hype and dive into the high-stakes reality of building software with AI. We will confront the Productivity Paradox - where speed in generation is offset by a hidden productivity tax in auditing.

• The Quality Crisis: How do we govern the output of AI solutions that are almost right, but not quite, preventing the mass-scaling of low-quality, inextensible code?
• The Collaboration Rift: When one teammate orchestrates a multi-agent system and another uses a single-line co-pilot, how do you maintain traceability, team rhythm, and a shared architectural vision?

This discussion will explore

• AI workflows in the wild: real-world wins, audit overhead, and best practices for integrating autonomous agents.
• Governing the generative: protocols for standardization, code quality, and enforcing architectural integrity in LLM-scaffolded applications.
• The true cost of automation: Quantifying the cost-to-benefit ratio, centralized model access, and the critical importance of IP and lineage governance.

Format

Facilitator: Jagadish Kasi is the curator of this BOF. He will anchor and guide the conversation.
Contributors: 3-4 practitioners who are already experimenting with AI tools in production teams will share their experiences in the course of discussion.
Participants: Everyone joins in - this is a collaborative discussion, not a lecture. Expect to share your own stories, lessons, and questions.
