The Fifth Elephant – Winter Edition 2025

Theme: AI and the Future of data workflows

AI - especially large language models (LLMs) - is disrupting every stage of the data value chain: from engineering and pipelines, to analytics, visualization, and BI. The disruption is rapid, uneven, and in many ways, uncertain. What once felt like a stable skillset or process can now be challenged - or replaced - by AI-driven approaches.

For practitioners, this raises urgent questions:

  • Am I focusing on the right kind of disruption?
  • Will my current skills stay relevant?
  • How do I repurpose my expertise as roles converge and AI takes over repetitive tasks?

Now is the time for the data community to come together, share experiments, and collectively explore the direction of these disruptions.

Who should submit

We invite practitioners across the data spectrum - data engineers, data scientists, BI professionals and analysts. This problem is bigger than any single role. Everyone in the data chain is being impacted, and everyone has something valuable to share.

Topics of interest

We are looking for case studies, experience reports, demos and workshops around:

  • How LLMs can create or improve data pipelines?
  • Are chatbots the future of analytics?
  • Semantic layers and AI in practice
  • Multi-source aggregation and agentic approaches (examples of working implementations)
  • AI-driven data pipeline design
  • Data governance and stewardship in the age of AI
  • Knowledge graphs and embeddings to provide context to LLMs
  • “Build your own”:
    • MCP (Model Context Protocol) for data sources → your own AI data analyst
    • Knowledge graph to serve AI-powered insights

If you are experimenting, prototyping, or even questioning current approaches - this is your space to present and engage.

How to submit

  • Share a clear title, abstract (200–300 words), and what the audience will take away.
  • Case studies and lessons learned - successes or failures - are especially encouraged.
  • Demos and technical walkthroughs are welcome.
