What is this workshop about?

Design and engineering are two sides of product making that have to go hand in hand but often people from one side of the aisle do not talk well with the other side. This workshop is about helping engineers understand how design looks at problems and solutions by bringing a user-focused lens. This will be a 2.5-hour long workshop held over Zoom.

Who should attend?

If you are an engineer who has worked with designs made by others, whether front-end or full-stack, and you want to be able to understand design better to have more meaningful conversations with your team and to make better products. Especially if you have a lot of weekend side projects stuck at the prototype stage because you don’t know how to make them more usable.

What will I learn in this workshop?

After this workshop, you will be able to

  • Have a clear vocabulary around the fundamentals of design
  • Build and understand user journeys
  • Have models to analyze the usability of designs

What do you need - preparation and beforehand - to participate in the workshop?

This workshop has no prerequisites other than curiosity. The exercises will not require you to know any software either. There will be additional content for further study provided after the session for those who might be interested in learning Figma.

How will I use what I learn?

You will have an understanding of how to think about the users, some models for the same, on usability, and developing empathy.

About the instructor

Divya is a general purpose creative, who writes, makes podcasts, comics, and illustrations but her key strengths are Game and Product design. A lot of her work has been focused on exploring different visual and experience design problems and finding solutions for them. Currently she is working on building an experience design studio, and working on making some games with her sister.

Online workshop

Will be held via Zoom
