To demonstrate application of some of the methods to study and understand the distribution of species using open geodata.
The session will demonstrate the application of some of the methods to study and understand the distribution of species using open geodata. Academically, termed as ecological niche modelling, attempts use a variety of geospatial information along with the point-distribution maps of species occurences to estimate the probable distribution of the said species in other areas with similar ecological variables.
Dr. KV Gururaja has a PhD on Amphibians and Landscape Ecology. He has been using geospatial methods extensively in his research to study and understand the distribution of amphibians and other taxa. His talk will demonstrate how this can be undertaken for other taxa using available open geodata and tools.
