About the speakers

Sunayana Sitaram is a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research, India where she works on Natural Language Processing. Her research interests are broadly in democratizing AI and currently, the focus of her work is on making LLMs more inclusive to more languages and cultures. She is also the Director of the MSR India Research Fellow program and is active in the NLP research community.

Tanuja Ganu is a Principal Research SDE Manager at Microsoft Research, India. She is currently part of MSR’s new center for Societal impact through Cloud and Artificial Intelligence (SCAI). SCAI focuses on creating, nurturing and deploying technologies that will have large
scale impact on society. She has previously co-founded DataGlen Technologies and worked as a Researcher at IBM Research, India.

Tanuja also spoke at The Fifth Elephant Winter Edition on the Shiksha Copilot project at Microsoft Research, India. Check out the video here!

About the AI and Risk Mitigation series

This session is part of the AI and Risk Mitigation series which will host meet-ups/talks on ed-tech, agritech, healthtech, fintech, and public services. The aim of this project is to:

  1. Build a community that will engage in issues of AI security, privacy, etc. and best practices to mitigate them.
  2. Develop a knowledge repository in the form of practical guidelines and a self-regulated charter for Ethical AI based on these sessions.

How you can contribute

  1. Post a talk proposal to suggest a topic you’d like to discuss. This should involve a brief outline of the use cases and challenges regarding AI implementation.
  2. Moderate/discuss a topic someone else is proposing.
  3. Spread the word among colleagues and friends.
  4. Join The Fifth Elephant Telegram group or WhatsApp group.
