Society track of The Goa Project 2016

A society is a group of people involved in persistent social interaction, or a large social grouping sharing the same geographical or social territory, typically subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations. Societies are characterised by patterns of relationships (social relations) between individuals who share a distinctive culture and institutions; a given society may be described as the sum total of such relationships among its constituent members. In the social sciences, a larger society often evinces stratification or dominance patterns in subgroups

  • Social Media and Technology: How are these two affecting societal situations today, and how are we leveraging them to stimulate change in untapped areas.

  • Stories of Social impact: The rising tide of social entrepreneurship. Social impact projects at scale and at the grassroots.

  • Patterns of relationships between subgroups of society: How cultural expectations affect our approach to politics, civil sense, and how we go about daily life.

Exploring and understanding the lack of civic sense and conduct in India

Outline

An interactive workshop to find ways to incentivise responsible civic behaviour among Indians by using human-centred design thinking.

Speaker bio

Anuja Pitre is a communication designer, currently transitioning into a social entrepreneur after returning from 30 Weeks (a Google incubator) in January 2016.

Anuja has previously worked independently and collaborated with other designers and creative teams. Her work is often illustrative, always emotive, and aims to be contextually informed. Her projects range widely -- from visual narration for an indie short film to the conceptualisation and design work for a tea-house. She has also designed for three seasons of Lakmé Fashion Week, Mumbai (Fall/Winter 2015 being the latest). She moonlights as a designer for Saaf India Foundation (an initiative started at the THNK School of Creative Leadership, Amsterdam) since its inception in 2013, developing waste management solutions for the Indian Railways.
