Rust Pune Meetup: July 2026

Got a few minutes? Let’s build a lightweight, cross-platform desktop application from scratch! Tauri allows you to build beautiful user interfaces using the web technologies you already know (HTML/CSS/JS) while leveraging the speed and safety of Rust for the backend.

This is a fast-paced, beginner-friendly co-build session. No deep Rust experience required!

What We Will Cover

• The Tauri Blueprint
  A lightning-fast look at how Tauri connects a web frontend to a Rust backend, and why it produces tiny, secure apps compared to Electron.
• Scaffolding & UI Setup
  We will spin up a fresh project, look at the folder structure, and build a simple frontend user interface.
• The Rust Bridge (Tauri Commands)
  We will write a simple Rust function, trigger it directly from our frontend JavaScript, and pass data between the web and Rust layers.
• The Live Build & Wrap-up
  Running the app locally, seeing it function as a native desktop application, and sharing resources to help you keep building.

Prerequisites

• Rust installed on your machine.
• Node.js installed.
• A text editor (like VS Code).
