DESCRIPTION:__Talk Abstract__\nBackend development is often saddled with r
epetitive tasks that not only add to development effort\, but also lead to
fragile systems with scattered implementations for authorization\, data a
ccess\, and integration with external services. What if we take a declarat
ive approach where we define models\, relationships between entities\, acc
ess rules\, and external services? Such a system would be easy to express\
, examine\, and extend. We can then build an API within a few minutes and
have confidence that it will meet our current and future needs.\n\nIn this
talk\, we will explore how to build such a system focusing on considerati
ons such as the language to express models and associated access rules\, d
efine external services and their interactions with the rest of the system
\, and deployment considerations. We will also discuss what it takes to ex
pose APIs such as GraphQL and REST. Finally\, we will examine special cons
iderations in implementing such a system in Rust.\n\n__About the Author__\
 n[Ramnivas](http://ramnivas.com/) is a technologist\, author\, and present
er who is passionate about doing software right.\n\nRamnivas has been lead
ing innovation in Spring Framework and Cloud Foundry since their beginning
. He has led a group in Cloud Foundry and started the Spring Cloud project
. Ramnivas is the author of AspectJ in Action (1st ed\, 2nd ed)\, the best
-selling book on aspect-oriented programming that has been lauded by indus
try experts for its presentation of practical and innovative approach to s
olve real-world problems. He has at many leading industry events including
  JavaOne\, ScalaDays\, JavaPolis\, No Fluff Just Stuff\, SpringOne\, and O
 'Reilly OSCON.
