Application Services for Operationalizing Kubernetes in the Multi-Cloud world

Abstract

There is immense interest and growing adoption of container ecosystems today, with Kubernetes being an easy and popular choice for enterprises. However, there are a variety of choices of underlying infrastructure ecosystems that Kubernetes can run on. Typical large enterprises in the real-world today also run in Multi-Cloud enviroments.

This session will look at the bigger picture by exploring all the application-services necessary to deploy a production-ready container-based application. There would be additional focus on the the design related to these Application Services both from an ecosystem agnostic perspective as well as some specific real-world examples involving specific ecosystems.

Expect the following topics to be discussed:

  • Basics of Kubernetes application deployments
  • Types of Kubernetes Services/Ingress and their relevance
  • North-South and East-West nature of Services and their broad requirements/design
  • Service Discovery / DNS within and Outside the cluster
  • IP Address Management(IPAM) / Networking inside and outside the cluster
  • Automation requirements for North-South Services
  • Analytics, Monitoring, Application Maps and Tracing.
  • Design considerations for Kubernetes on Public Cloud, Private Cloud and Legacy On-Premise environments
  • Whats the buzz with Istio, where are we headed ?

Requirements

Knowledge of Kubernetes/OpenShift is expected. This is not a Kubernetes 101 or basics of Kubernetes session. This session will focus on real world design of Application deployment.
This session will not focus on design of the applications themselves, but the services framework using which applications will be deployed.

Speaker bio

Pavan Kaushik is an application and Data centre Networking professional with particular interests in modern application architectures. As a Product Management Engineer at Avi Networks, he currently focuses on Application services in container and micro-service environments. He works on the design, architecture and validation across multiple ecosystems. Pavan has over 10 years of experience working across Enterprise and Data Center Networking with Cisco Systems and Application Networking across multi-cloud environments with Avi Networks.
