Openshift: Deployments for the rest of us

Submitted May 7, 2012

An overview of Red Hat’s Openshift PaaS. OpenShift is Red Hat’s free, auto-scaling Platform as a Service (PaaS) for applications.

This talk walks through an introduction to Openshift and shows how to get Ruby, PHP, Perl and Python applications up online without worrying about the underlying infrastructure.

Outline

OpenShift is an application platform in the cloud where application developers and teams can build, test, deploy, and run their applications. It takes care of all the infrastructure, middleware, and management and allows the developer to focus on what they do best: designing and coding applications.

Openshift provides built in support for Node.js, Ruby, Python, PHP, Perl, and Java applications.

In this talk we’ll see:

  • An overview of Openshift PaaS.
  • Command line client rhc.
  • Deploying sample apps.
  • The Openshift shell.
  • Databases &Logs.

Requirements

  • Linux terminal
  • Working knowledge of using the terminal.

A linux laptop, Openshift account and rhc command line tools would save a lot of time.
