Wikidata - The universe in a Database

Wikidata is a project started by Wikimedia Foundation, the organization behind wikipedia. The aim of wikidata is to create a database of all the elements in the universe. It also working as a link database of various databases. This talk is an introduction to wikidata and how we can run various queries and analyze data like “List of Countries ordered by the number of cities with female mayor”, “Popular surnames among fictional characters”, “Oldest software” etc.

Outline

In the presentation I will try to explain what is wikidata and what is the future of open data and how we can use it. Also how to contribute to wikidata and why we contribute.

I am a webdeveloper by profession and co-founder of Alpha Fork, a webdesigning startup, I am sysop in Malayalam Wikipedia and contributor from 2007, was a speaker of National Free Software conference 2008, Wikiconference India 2016.
