Is FOSS a success story?

Success can be defined in various ways: Money, Fame, Satisfaction, Acceptance, Defeating rivals, Rivals accepting your victory, etc. This talk will present an analysis of the FOSS movement from all these perspectives with philosophical insights. Drawing on surveys, and statistical data available the talk will talk on motivations of FOSS developers, their view of success vis-a-vis the popular ways of measuring success.

What is Success: Various parameters
Money: The FOSS business, story so far, Do people really work for money?
Fame: Do people work for fame? The hall of fame and a critical analysis of their popularity
Satisfaction: Do people work for satisfaction
Rivals: Historical changes in responses of the proprietary world to the world of FOSS
New definitions of success

Abhijit is a faculty at College of Engineering Pune. He is a FOSS enthusiast and has been preaching freedom to his students for almost a decade now.
