Understanding the concepts of functional programming using everyday shell commands
Functional programming is an interesting and a useful way of thinking about how one codes. But usually, trying to learn concepts of functional programming requires one to pick up a new programming language and mathematical constructs like monads and functors. Unix pipes are usually used as examples for understanding composition. This talk delves further into topics like immutablity, referential transparency, lazy evaluation, higher order functions, monads, etc.
Audience can follow along if they have access to an unix terminal.
Govind is a software engineer who earlier designed robots with DNA. He was bitten by the functional programming bug 2 years ago and since then been working with haskell and clojure both as a hobby and professionally.
