FOSSMeet is the annual Free and Open source software meet at NIT Calicut. We are inviting proposals for talks and workshops at FOSSMeet 2016.
Through FOSSMeet, we intend to get the attendees, mostly students, get started with the development and usage of free software. You may propose to conduct a lecture, demo, tutorial, workshop, discussion or panel at FOSSMeet. If the contents of your session is the ‘I am feeling lucky’ result of some Google search, there is low probability that it’ll be accepted. Same applies to proposals titled ‘The absolute beginner introduction to X’ and others on a similar line. On the other hand, if your talk is on some obscure, albeit important, free software project that will go over most students head, this might not be the best platform to deliver that talk. There are always exceptions and we leave that to your judgement. If our audience wants it, we’ll try our best to accommodate it. Of course, if you find people interested in your proposal, you can always call a BoF. We are all for BoF’s! :)

Help in understanding the trends in the web app development world, especially in the context of Elixir and Phoenix. A small introduction to the concepts of Phoenix and advantages that it has is going to be a major takeaway.
The talk aims at understanding the trends in the industry and what future applications might demand. Rails has been a trend for past couple of years and that is for a reason. But those reasons are changing now and the requirements are going to be tougher and the need of the hour is going to be concurrency and parallelism. This sets the stage for functional programming languages that are emerging which have most of these demands built into them as building block. Phoenix is a framework that is evloving into the space of web application frameworks and it is really a promising one. The talk will breifly walk through some of the salient features of Elixir.
I have been in the web industry for around 6 years now. I am leading several projects as a technical architect in Cybrilla technologies. I have bootstrapped 2 startups and have been mentoring few. I am a FOSS evangelist and have been part of the community for 10 years.
