DESCRIPTION:# Sponsor The Fifth Elephant's activities and programmes\nThe
Fifth Elephant is a year-round community of data and AI practitioners who
share their work\, question assumptions and learn from one another's exper
ience. The conferences\, meet-ups and workshops bring people together to e
xplore ideas\, build collaborations and find new directions for their prac
tice.\n\n*The Winter Edition 2026 brings this community together around th
e practice of working with data\, connecting analytics\, business intellig
ence and data science with industry\, research\, journalism and public-int
erest work.*\n\n## Winter Edition: the changing practice of working with d
 ata\n**4–5 December 2026 · TERI\, Domlur\, Bangalore + online**\n\n**Ne
w tools. Enduring questions. Fresh possibilities with data.**\n\nAI is cha
nging what people can do with data and how they do it. The Winter Edition
examines what these changes mean for the practice of analytics and data sc
ience: how we frame questions\, understand where data comes from\, test an
explanation\, evaluate a result and decide what to do next.\n\nThrough ca
se studies\, showcases and conversations\, practitioners will explore new
possibilities alongside the judgment that makes their work useful. An insi
ghtful analysis\, a revealing visualization or a well-examined failure can
give someone else a new way to approach their own problem.\n\nThe program
me is being developed around questions such as:\n- **Can we trust the data
?** Understanding how it was collected\, whose experience it represents\,
and what annotation or verification it needs.\n- **What makes an analysis
convincing?** Testing assumptions\, examining benchmarks\, recognizing mis
leading results and knowing when to revise a claim.\n- **How does data bec
ome useful in an organization?** Reconciling competing metrics\, understan
ding why unofficial dashboards emerge and connecting findings to decisions
.\n- **What changes when AI assists the analyst?** Examining which tasks c
an change\, what needs human judgment and which foundations remain essenti
al.\n- **What can we learn from another field's data work?** Exploring res
earch\, public datasets\, journalism\, maps and other applications that op
en up new questions.\n\nThese themes describe the editorial direction. Ind
ividual sessions are still being developed.\n\n### Two days\, different fo
 rmats\n| Date | Programme direction | Planning status |\n|---|---|---|\n|
 4 December | Sponsored talks\, panels and fireside chats\; some workshops\
; posters in the alleyway | Evolving\; session mix and schedule to be conf
 irmed |\n| 5 December | Deep-dive case study talks\, showcases\, poster se
ssions in the alleyways and birds-of-a-feather discussions (BOFs) | More s
ettled programme direction\; final schedule to follow |\n\n**Expected in-p
 erson turnout: ~100 attendees on 4 December\; 150 attendees on 5 December.
**\n\n[Explore the Winter Edition programme and call for proposals](https:
//hasgeek.com/fifthelephant/winter-2026/)\n\n## Audience profile at The Fi
fth Elephant Winter edition \nThe programme is intended for people who inv
estigate questions with data and those who help put the findings to use. I
t welcomes practitioners at different career stages\, from people sharing
an early project to experienced specialists and team leaders.\n\n- **Analy
sts and business intelligence practitioners:** investigating business ques
tions\, defining metrics and helping teams make sense of results.\n- **Dat
a scientists and applied statisticians:** designing analyses and experimen
ts\, assessing models and testing the quality of evidence.\n- **Product ma
nagers and product analysts working closely with data teams:** translating
questions into analytical work and using findings to shape products and d
ecisions.\n- **Analytics and data science leaders\, consultants and indepe
ndent practitioners:** comparing approaches\, learning how practice is cha
nging and finding peers and collaborators.\n- **Researchers\, data journal
ists\, visualization practitioners and people working with public or socia
l-sector data:** bringing methods\, datasets and perspectives from beyond
corporate analytics.\n\nThe programme brings together data practitioners f
rom companies\, consultancies\, research institutions\, newsrooms and publ
ic-interest organizations. Participants compare approaches to shared probl
ems\, find ideas to apply at work and build relationships across fields.\n
\n## Why sponsor the Winter Edition?\nFor organizations serving data pract
itioners\, the Winter Edition offers a focused setting to understand the q
uestions people are working through\, discuss approaches and build relatio
nships around shared interests.\n\n- **Learn from practitioners:** hear ho
w analytical work happens in organizations and where people encounter diff
iculties with data\, interpretation and adoption.\n- **Contribute relevant
expertise:** develop a sponsored session on 4 December around a concrete
problem\, experience or useful approach.\n- **Build professional relations
hips:** meet people doing substantive data work\, including potential coll
aborators\, colleagues and customers.\n- **Support a wider exchange of ide
as:** help bring together industry\, research and public-interest practice
through the conference\, posters and community activities.\n\nWith 250 at
tendees expected across both days (4 and 5 Dec)\, the proposed sponsor off
er centres on relevant participation and opportunities for conversation. \
