DESCRIPTION:# The Fifth Elephant 2026 Winter Edition: Call for Data Proble
ms and Proposals\n**4-5 December 2026** \n**A conference for data practit
 ioners across industry\, non-profits\, society\, economy\, psephology\, st
 atistics\, analytics\, and more. No engineering talks.**\n\nTimelessness a
nd the shape of data are at the core of conversations at The Fifth Elephan
t 2026 Winter Edition.\n\nThis edition is for data practitioners across do
mains. Whether you work in industry\, the non-profit sector\, public polic
 y\, economic data\, psephology\, statistics\, analytics\, or other data-fa
cing worlds\, you are welcome to participate and share what you are workin
g on.\n\nWe are looking for new ideas\, classical problems\, unfinished wo
rk\, failed attempts\, unexplained results\, and datasets looking for ques
tions. Your work may involve linear regression\, noisy neighbours\, statis
tical methods\, analytical frameworks\, data interpretation\, or newer tec
hniques.\n\n**This is not a call for engineering talks.** The Fifth Elepha
nt Winter Edition is not about data pipelines\, infrastructure\, tooling\,
or implementation stories for their own sake. It is about the practice of
  working with data: the questions\, methods\, uncertainties\, findings\, f
ailures\, and judgments that shape data work.\n\nThe science has not gone
away\, but the techniques have changed. We are not here for preservation o
r lament. We are here to collectively rediscover what is getting formed as
data science\, and what may emerge over the next three years.\n\nThe Wint
er Edition is also a platform for collaboration: a place to discover peopl
 e\, ideas\, support\, and resources for your journey and problems.\n\n## K
ey takeaways for attendees\n- Discover new ideas that may inspire you or b
ring fresh creativity into your own work.\n- Meet people and build network
s\, because there is a world of humans beyond Claude and ChatGPT. Find fri
 ends\, collaborators\, and co-conspirators.\n\n## Meet the Editors\n* Kart
hik Shashidhar — AI and data consultant\; founder \n https://www.link
 edin.com/in/karthikshashidhar/\n\n* S Anand — LLM Psychologist \n htt
ps://www.linkedin.com/in/sanand0/\n\n* Prasanna Bhogale — Founder at Rom
 ulan AI\; author \n https://www.linkedin.com/in/pbhogale/\n\n## Session
Types\n\n1. **Classical data talks that used to happen at The Fifth Eleph
ant conferences** \n Share what you learned\, what failed\, and what yo
u are still trying to understand. We are looking for introspections filled
with techniques and fewer jargons. We explicitly seek unfinished work: fa
 ilures\, WIP\, unexplained results\, and datasets looking for questions.\n
\n2. **Showcase** \n Show an innovative idea you are working on. Your i
dea need not be in production. Use the stage to tell us why it is cool. To
 ot the horn\, maccha\, in 20 minutes only.\n\n3. **Problem wall** \n Re
verse-engineer your submission and tell us about a problem you are working
on\, along with the ideas\, expertise\, or collaborators you seek. If the
Three Musketeers like it\, your problem may go up on the wall and find mo
re humans and their shoulders.\n\n4. **Birds of a Feather sessions** \n
Facilitate a BOF session. Say it in more than words. We’ll get you a wh
 iteboard\, flipchart\, or anything else you need. Heck\, even a spaceship\
, if that can land at the venue.\n\n5. **Poster sessions** \n Show your
WIP or project visually in the alleyways. We are looking for applications
of concepts to problems and scenarios in industry\, society\, economy\, a
nd even the Silo world.\n\n## Not Sure Which Session Fits Your Work?\n\nDo
n’t hesitate. Submit your idea here: https://hasgeek.com/fifthelephant/f
 ifthel-winter-call-for-problems-and-proposals/sub\nYou will receive sugges
tions\, feedback\, and perhaps even more questions.\n\nYou can also join t
he weekly sounding board calls on Fridays\, 12:00-12:40 PM: https://meet.g
oogle.com/jqd-fvvp-tho Calls start on 11 September and end on 9 October. G
et in the queue\, or as AI calls it\, *'the room'*. \n\n## Deadline\nEarli
er is always better. Classical talks and showcase sessions have seven slot
s each. Send in your proposal by **11 October 2026** at the latest.\n\n##
 Questions?\nWrite to info@hasgeek.com or call/text 7676332020.
