To introduce basic concepts & application of R to audience.


R is an open source software environment for statistical computing & graphics. R can be used for data manipulation, data analysis, statistical modelling and data visualization.

R is used in industry for wide ranging application from drug research studies, advertizing campaign effectiveness, building trading strategies in financial markets to mining twitter for sentiment analysis.

Speaker bio

Shree Joshi has 15+ years experience in software development. Shree has worked at various levels of technology stack from network processor definition to linux kernel enhancements, networking protocols & applications from network management to voice telephony.

Shree regularly participates and contributes to standardization activities in Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).

    Riju is speaking about NSSO data and R. Shree, can you talk about a data story - a specific sector such as finance, or drug industry - where R has been used for analytics and processing? We could then consider doing a panel on R instead of just individual talks.

      I can talk about finance (stock analysis) as data story.

    I am talking about some specific usages of R for extracting NSSO data, and a couple of visualisation libraries.

    Shree should definitely go ahead and do a general introduction to R awesomeness.

    I also agree with Zainab’s idea. A general introduction to R would work well for the panel too.
