DESCRIPTION:Thru the Galli solves the last-mile navigation issues associat
ed with current map based direction systems like Google Maps. Current dire
ctions work pretty well for known landmarks. But\, to reach a specific loc
ation from a popular landmark through shortcuts\, human assistance is requ
ired.\n\nUsing this app\, you can create Custom map directions from the ne
arest Landmark and share it as a link using SMS\, Email and Facebook. The
app uses Layar's Augmented Reality to make sure you reach the right place
without any difficulty. The directions also can be viewed over a web brows
er.\n\nThe app is one of the winners of Intel's App4India contest.\n\n###

DESCRIPTION:A lot has been said about the importance of design in applicat
ions and the very android design patterns that represent them. However\, w
hat hasn't really been emphasised enough is **the way of coming up with th
ose design ideas\, converting them into functional prototypes and then see

 a single line of code!**\n\nIt doesn't matter whether you're a designer\,
an android developer or if you just have an app idea\, you need to attend
this talk to understand how to use the right tools to make your app design
a reality.\n\nThis talk will cover the following\n\n* What is UI prototyp
ing?\n* Why is it important?\n* Case studies\n* How to go about prototypin
g an android design?\n\nTools used for prototyping UI\n\n* Old school UI d
esign tools like pen n paper\, stencils etc.\n* Free UI design tools like
Pencil etc.\n* Commercial UI design tools like Omnigraffe etc.\n* A compar
ison of all UI design tools\, what is right for you?\n* Testing your proto
types on a real Android device without writing a line of code - Live demo\

DESCRIPTION:Microsoft Kinect\, an accessory to XBox console provides excel
lent gesture recognition capabilities as well as user and environment data
. These can be used to develop intuitive user applications that provide a
whole new dimension to user interaction. In this tutorial\, we would discu
ss on how we can use Microsoft Kinect and an Android device to have two pl
ayers interact with each other and play a very simple but engaging game. T
he tutorial would also go through the challenges that are involved in real
-time data transmission between the devices and how it was tackled.\n\nThe
objective of the game is to swat a fly. The fly movement would be control
led by the Android device by one of the players and the other player track
ed by Kinect\, would have to swat the flay using their hands. The points w
ould be tracked on a time slot basis. More android devices in place\, the
more number of flies that can be included in the game.\n\n### Speaker bio\

DESCRIPTION:This talk is about how to marry your innate skills in creative
ideas with your simple design and crafting compelling\, handsome apps. An
droid apps have been heavily criticized in the past due to poor user exper
ience. One of the reasons why this happened is lack of solid & consistent
UI patterns. Through this session we will deconstruct a variety of success
ful mobile experiences from the old green screens to today's hottest andro
id apps. Here are some of it's abstracts.\n\n* We will identify why **apps
need stories**\, and how some successful apps like instagram\, path and f
oursquare are still users favorite since they have a simple story behind t
hem.\n\n* **Get to know the lego blocks of your app**. User experience are
what people feel and think about your app. To sell a strong emotional use
r experience you gotta make your apps not more than 3 steps/navigation.\n\
n* A good interface is a **thousand details done right**. As a designer yo
u need to understand your audience even better than they understand themse
lves. We will learn how to gain empathy on our target audience through des
ign\, details and the experience.\n\n* We will also get techie on Learning
the **design language of Android**. This will include where and when and
 how to use \n 1. Action Bar\n 2. Drawers\n 3. View Pagers\n 4.
  Multi-pane layouts\n 5. Fragments\n 6. Encapsulation\n\n in the
context of design. Because these are the coolest new patterns that are fou
nd successful in android apps.\n\n* We will progress to understand the **p
ixel language of android**. Learning where to avoid and conceive complexit
ies in an app. I would showcase a live working demo of a complex app that
I'm working on and how I pushed its pixels from design to working app (pho
toshop to .apk) \n\n* Design is not about **products**\; it's about **peop
 le**.\n\n### Speaker bio\n\n**[Isaac John Wesley] [2]**\n\nA design grad (
visual communication). I started to design since the age 12 and started to
code android a year back. I'm a self thought hacker and I have successful
ly launched my first app [The God's Word] [1] in playstore recently which

DESCRIPTION:Mobile is the new Web. With advent of multiple mobile platform
s and ecosystems\, various cross platform solutions are on a rise. With bu
sinesses aiming for "Cover your bases strategy"** some of the traditional
solutions have ranged from using a mix of native-backend but a HTML5 front
-end or a Native front-end and a common API back-end. For complex apps the
real value of reusability lies in controller logic. With traditional appr
oaches it's been hard to have reusable controllers and yet have a polished
Native front-end. What if\, we had a framework that would allow you to ke
ep controller as a reusable component and yet allow you to choose between
HTML5 or Native front-end/back-end? This is now possible\, using the "Brid
ge approach" to cross-platform Mobile.\n\nThis session aims at presenting
an approach\, that developers and business can leverage alike to have more
re-usability across platforms and yet plug in HTML5 or Native components
wherever they desire. The common core not only encompasses core logic but
also shared UI components. Besides highlighting the benefits and possible
use cases where common core can be used\, the session will also present th
e scenarios where having a native component in the app can provide a bette
r user experience.\n\nAt the end of the session\, attendees will understan
d the new paradigm that allows and focuses on the reusability of complex c
ontroller logic and UI components with a clear understanding of where such
an approach fits and where it doesn't work. Attendes can also get a insig
ht into the internals and implementation of this approach in a follow up s
ession that would be done by Tanay Jayawant. Please do attend that\, if yo
u'd like to see this into action.\n\nThis session is targeted at anyone ha
ving an intermediate to advanced mobile or web development experience.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:90% of Indians are on mobile phones with no Internet - which i
s about 600M users approximately. We want to help you tap into this audien
ce via SMS serving the info and services your android app provides.\n\nIn
this talk we are hoping to demo how any android app built can be made to s
erve information without the need of expensive data plans. We are using th
e txtWeb Platform to enable this. txtWeb is a global platform where anyone
with a mobile phone can discover and consume internet and txtWeb-only con
tent just by SMSing keywords (very much like entering domain names into in
ternet browsers) to ONE national number\, and receive back content (up to
900 characters per SMS). Keywords represent an almost unlimited number of
applications that use content from the internet or have their own original
content. These applications are created by an open community of publisher
s and developers (which can be anyone)\, and can include Wikipedia content
\, local market prices\, government programs\, financial literacy tips etc
. A user can think of txtWeb as an SMS-based browser\, but much more acces
sible than web-browsers on computers since anyone with a simple feature ph
one can use it.\n\nAlso\, importantly\, for publishers\, developers and bu
sinesses\, txtWeb is one of the fastest platforms to make content and serv
ices available to billions. Deploying existing static content via a txtWeb
site takes only 5 minutes. Creating and deploying a dynamic SMS-based app
lication on txtWeb usually takes about 5 hours.\n\nAdditionally we will de
mo today how we have built android apps\, which can be used either over Wi
Fi\, or over SMS depending on the user's network connectivity. You would s
till have access to any app built over txtWeb over SMS even if you don't h
ave an internet connection\, as this app seamlessly switches between SMS/W
iFi automatically.\n\nLearn about how two engineers in their whitespace (u
nstructured time) developed an Android application for an SMS based Platfo
rm - txtWeb.\n\n### Speaker bio\n\nGopi Krishnan : Currently working at In

DESCRIPTION:Love it Or hate it\, the potential benefits of being Agile is
hard to dispute. However\, when it comes to deploying an agile process tha
t works in the mobile apps development world - there are many factors that
influence the ability to successfully drive benefits out of it.\n\nIn thi
s session we will take a quick look at the basic agile process and look at
the various factors that makes this far from a one size fits all methodol
ogy.\n\nWe will then look at some of these factors/challenges. These could
include the constant changes in platforms\, capabilities etc\; the lack o
f experience in this space for many developers\; the unknown nature of som
e of the features you set out to build etc.\n\nFinally\, we will take the
core agile process and run through various approaches with some examples t
o tailoring it for mobile applications development in order to realize the
benefits of agility.\n\n### Speaker bio\n\nI am a senior tech executive a
nd an eternal hobbyist. I love to create products that bring real world ex
periences to your mobile phones. For the first half of my career I was a
hardcore developer and for the next half have played various product marke
ting\, management and strategy roles.\n\nAs a Director of Product Manageme
nt\, for over 4 years now have been working with teams that use Agile and
am a big fan of Agile. I bring a combination of both Developer and Product
Management insights into Agile and have helped drive it specific to the o
 rganization\, team and product needs.\n

DESCRIPTION:Battery consumption is a huge pain for any smartphone user\, m
ore so on the Android world\, as it allows greater access and flexibility
for the apps that run on it. Apps\, if not written properly\, can quickly
become a battery hog\, and hurt end-user experience. But unfortunately the
re are not many tools that help the app developers to measure their app's
power consumption and in-turn help optimize it. \n\n"Little Eye" is a powe
r profiler\, which was built to handle the above problem\, including bench
marking your app's power consumption.\n\nThe talk will focus on explaining
about the various issues related to power consumption of Android apps. It
will include discussion on what developers can do to optimize for power\,
plus a demo of the "Little Eye" tool\, and how one can use the tool to ge
t fine grained details about their app's power consumption.\n\n### Speaker

DESCRIPTION:Over the years as an Android developer\, I had implemented man
y out of the box ideas which had let my apps push the barrier. Android had
\, has and always will have bugs and limitations. These cause major headac
hes and barriers. But often\, creative solutions can be found to get aroun
d them. Here I will present a few such hacks.\n\n1. Is it portrait or land
scape?\nWhile developing the Layar app\, we had to face a nasty bug in the
first Android devices that basically ruled out using the camera in Portra
it mode. We build a work around by overriding the View lifecycle onDraw()
method. More details into the implementation and the many other challenges
we had to face before we could push this hack.\n\n2. Proxy is your friend
.\nWhile building an app for GCon - an external harddrive with wifi - we w
anted to stream videos and audio from the device. But the content on the G
Con device was authenticated and Android mediaplayer doesn't support sendi
ng headers( thereby cookies) until API 14. We had to use a StreamProxy to
overcome.\n\n3. No text selection in WebView?!\nThe WebView in Android do
esn't support customizing text selection. For our book reader app\, text s
election and highlighting was a must-have feature. I will give high level
overview of how we hacked around the limitations to implement text selecti
on for WebView.\n\n\nWrap up: Pushing hacks is not easy\, but can be done.
And its fun!\n\n### Speaker bio\n\nI have been into Android development s
ince the launch of the SDK\, initially as a hobbyist and as a professional
developer since last 3.5 years. I have built many apps with installs tota
ling 10s of millions\, most popular being Layar. During this experience\,
I had some opportunities of pushing hacks into production and I have alway
s wanted to share the experience. \n\nRecently started working on Divi\, w
ith the goal of bringing tablets to education.\n
