DESCRIPTION:What are the possible ways of storing\,retrieving and represen
ting geo-spatial data? What drives the choice of a given representaion of
this data? How can small tweaks enhance performance? \n\nThe discussion ai
ms to enlighten pros and cons of the various methods of representation whe
n trying to resolve a problem involving geo-spatial data. How would we sto
re and index the data for a location like Bangalore and get relevant infor
mation for an area like Koramanagala to serve intelligent information. \n\
nWe would also like to cover several ways to save infrastructural costs(ex
ample of Amazon EMR will be taken). \n\nOur experience is mainly around w
riting pipelines for processing huge ammounts of spacial data from their r
aw form to creating relevant reports. We would like to talk about the seve
ral performance bottlenecks we faced in representing and maintaining data
as well as performance and how we overcame these.\n\n### Speaker bio\n\nVa

DESCRIPTION:Location\, Location\, Location. \n\nIn my talk\, I'd like to d
iscuss the technology being used to serve location data across Yahoo. I'll
also discuss how how the *many* properties across the company utilize and
contribute back to this data set. We'll also discuss how the technology s
tack enables it to be done at "Yahoo" scale. \n\nFinally\, I'd like to int
roduce some of the public facing web APIs that Yahoo exposes to developers
to build their own location data based applications.\n\n### Speaker bio\n

DESCRIPTION:Lokasi does a (non-trivial) reverse geo lookup of your current
location and tells you in human understandable and unambiguous way where
you are. It can find out the nearest landmark for you and tell you distanc
e from that. Once you get couple of landmarks you get a general sense of w
here you are without having to decipher your location on a google map. \n\
nYou could then send that as SMS to your friend who will immediately know
where you instead of having to look it up on google map. \n\nIn this talk
we will walk through how we went about creating this app\, what kind of da
ta is required to support such a use case and how to provide the intellige
nt information from that data and your lat-long.\n\n### Speaker bio\n\nMy
name is Mayank Sharma. I work for a LBS company called ONZE. We provide LB

nd engagement with their customers with location being the central theme.
I am quite passionate about location and mobile technology.\n

DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered how useful your home ‘address’ ACTUALLY is?
How long SHOULD it take for a letter to travel 15\,000km to suburban India
? Or\, how many times should your driver be allowed to ask for directions
before being excessive??\n\nThis is an open ended discussion driven by the
problems encountered when attempting to locate people on a household basi
 s. We will discuss how much information is actually needed to pinpoint a l
ocation and how proper mapping can improve the efficiency of this system f
or several industries such as municipal utilities\, e-commerce\, general b
illing\, recreation\, etc. \n\nIn general\, what are our current limitatio
ns in mapping and when/where does it make sense to begin mapping community
based\, spatial knowledge? After a brief introduction to the challenges w
e’ve faced and the solutions we’ve come up with\, this session will ac
t as a platform for creativity and endless mapping possibilities. Share yo
ur past experiences\, innovative suggestions\, and future solutions!\n\n##

DESCRIPTION:Geohash is a lat/long geocode system which divides space into
\nbuckets of grid shape. The system offers arbitrary precision and gradual
removal of characters loses precision. As a result\, the methodology has
"nearby" places have similar prefixes. \n\nThe method was majorly develope
d to easily denote a unique location in emails\, forums etc using a short
link which is exposed as a webservice in geohash.org\n\nIn the talk\, I pl
an to briefly touch upon basics of Geohash system\, how it works and some
popular opensource libraries which expose the service. The performance ben
efits of doing operations with geohash system in comparison to conventiona
l lat/long system will also be covered. I will also explain how we make us
e of geohash system in implementing nearby searches in our products @Ideop
hone\, alongwith a small demo of an application developed internally.\n\n#

query the data.\n2. What are the different ways you can query location dat
 a (not just nearby\, based on a polygon\, circle\, etc.)\n3. Introduce how
