DESCRIPTION:The browser is the most common end-point consumption of Deep l
earning models. It is also the most ubiquitous platform for programming av
ailable. The maturity of the client-side JavaScript ecosystem across the d
eep learning process e.g. dataframe support (arrow.js)\, WebGl accelerated
learning frameworks (deeplearn.js)\, declarative interactive visualisatio
n (vega-lite.js)\, have made it easy to start playing with Deep Learning i
n the browser.\n\nThis talk is designed in the "Show\, not Tell" format. W
e will focus on showcasing three particular use case (live-demos) where de
ep learning models can be used for explanations\, inference and training o
n the browser directly. The demos will also show the application from thre
 e different types of data - tabular\, text and image.\n\n1. **Explorable E
xplanations**: Explaining the DL model and allowing the users to build int
uition on the model helps in generating insight. We showcase an *explorabl
e explanation for loan default DL model*\, which allows the user to explor
e the feature space and threshold boundaries using interactive visualisati
ons to drive decision making.\n\n2. **Model Inference**: Inference is the
most common use case and the browser allows you to 'bring your DL model to
the data'. It also allows you test how the model works\, when executed on
the edge. We showcase an *comments sentiment* application in the browser
\, which can identify and warn about the toxicity of the comments as you t
ype in a text box.\n\n3. **Rapid Prototyping**: Training of DL models is n
ow possible in the browser itself\, if done smartly. We showcase a *rapid
prototyping image classification* example which allows the user to play wi
th transfer learning to build a model specific for a user-generated image
input. \n\nWe will end the talk on how we see the ecosystems of tools for
DL in the browser emerging and making it easy for everyone to start doing
this.\n\nFor those more curious about how all these demos will actually h
appen\, we will be leveraging the following newer libraries (and some trad
 itional ones like d3.js) in javascript.\n\n- [Tensorflow.js](https://js.te
nsorflow.org/) for deep learning model training and inference.\n- [Ml.js](
https://github.com/mljs/) for traditional machine learning model training
and inference.\n- [Vega and Vega-lite](https://vega.github.io/) for intera
 ctive dashboards.\n- [Arrow.js](https://github.com/apache/arrow/tree/maste
r/js) for data loading\, and type inference \n\nThe working demos will be
available on the web and open-source code on Github. An initial draft of t
he slides is attached.\n\n### Speaker bio\n\nAmit Kapoor teaches the craft
of telling visual stories with data. He conducts workshops and trainings
on Data Science in Python\, R and Javascript\, as well as on Data Visualis
ation topics. His background is in strategy consulting having worked with

DESCRIPTION:To successfully solve a problem through machine learning\, 1.
you need the _right_ kind of data for the given problem\, 2. you need suff
icient amount of data corresponding to the complexity of the underlying pr
oblem you are trying to solve. 3. the specific aspect of the problem you
are trying to solve should be predictable 4. there should exist a "single"
solution to the problem you are trying to solve. \n\nHere is the [link to
  draft slides](https://www.dropbox.com/s/0kl6nivbzejlzio/what-you-cannot-d

s where machine learning isn't an appropriate solution and have failed.\n\

DESCRIPTION:Attention Mechanisms have been popular for the past couple of
years\, giving new insights in image and NLP applications using Recurrent
Neural Networks. We would like to discuss advances in Attention Mecahnisms
in this panel with specific emphasis on two new innovations\, Composition
al Attention Networks (https://arxiv.org/abs/1803.03067) and Hierarchical
Recurrent Attention Networks (https://arxiv.org/abs/1701.07149). Both the
papers address a critical gap in Deep Neural Net architectures\, that of r
easoning from first principles. We will discuss the applicability of Atten
tion Mechanisms beyond the paper to address concept based reasoning.\n\n##
