Abstract

For any merchant selling online, advanced data analytics based on the payment transaction data could be a game changer. The more information they have on their visitors, sales and check out data it helps the merchants to serve the customers better. It is also a critical for the payment processor to serve the data and analytical information to merchants in a clear and concise manner for them to act upon and get benefit out of it.

The above mentioned simple data analytics becomes complexly challenging with the underlying technology and architecture becoming more intriguing when you have millions of merchants and deal with petabytes of data. This talk will focus on how the payment processors can help merchants access their data and best practices to focus on architecture and the learnings when you are dealing with scale

Thanks for submitting the proposal, Pavan. I’d like to see either slides or a more elaborate textual descripion of this part of the proposal: “This talk will focus on how the payment processors can help merchants access their data and best practices to focus on architecture and the learnings when you are dealing with scale.” Will you be showing examples from PayPal?

Analytics is a very important for all our merchants. The talk will start by sharing some of the data we have on what the merchants are looking for in terms of analytics. This is based on extensive customer research and studies. Based on the analysis it became clear for us that we have to focus on analytics if we have to retain and grow our merchant base. The last one year we have invested heavily on showing some relevant data to merchants. I will be sharing how PayPal helps merchants by showing the data they are interested in. I will be showing three separate dashboards that we have built with some interesting data we have gathered and aggregated along with the technology and architecture we have used to generate this. I will also be sharing some initial feedback from our merchants after experiencing the analytics dashboard.

We are looking at there different ways to show them the data. I can have some screenshots of each of this we have done.
    1) Show sales and XO data we have
    2) Show their visitor data by embedding a tag in the merchant site
    3) Partner with a 3rd party analytics provider which shows an elegant dashboard based on our data
